the room on the woman

Mary Katrantzou Ready-To-Wear S/S 2011

There is truly something about Mary, as Harper's quoted in a feature style article about Katrantzou's most recent RTW show.

The Greek-born originated designer has portrayed the most unique designs i have seen in a long, long time. The extent of detail in each look us mind-blowing, and each one has a different shape, pattern, texture and volume -- it's like your eyes are singing with pleasure to look at each spring concept. The stroke of genius to create skirts in the shape of Victorian lampshades just makes every other designer wish  they thought of it first.
But, this is all Mary.

Each look is such beautifully cut and finished. She used current trends in her collection, as well as setting some new ones, I'm sure. I am just shocked to my very core how amazing she is. To create three-dimensional shapes that just pop out from the runway is incredible.

You may have seen Katrantzou's pieces in Australian Harper's Bazaar, in a recent editorial featuring the wonderous Bambi Northwood-Blyth.

 Look #14
"With this collection, I wanted to
put the room on the woman,
rather than the woman
in the room."

Katrantzou stated after the magnificent show. There is a long list of high profiles who refuse to blend into the crowd, including actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tilda Swinton, and models; Yasmin Le Bon and Karolina Kurkova.

Katrantzou's official website is currently under construction, but I encourage you to check it out when it is up and running. You can see for yourself here and hopefully you will be able to buy her one-of-a-kind works of art.

Ciao,
Xo
